Resumption
of VSO/AVI Programs
After a lapse of one year the VSO
Programme has resumed in Pakistan/Azad Kashmir. Jane Elizabeth Seekings,
a volunteer from VSO UK, joined ITE in May this year. An Australian
volunteer under AVI Programme, Catherine Oxworth also joined the
Institute in June.
Teachers
Training
Mr Jamil Ahmed, Associate Director PVITE
was selected for an 8 to 12 weeks course for subject specialists
in Science and English respectively at Plymouth State University,
Plymouth, NH USA commencing in July.
ITE
Course
Third ITE course started in July
and will continue till December. The course is currently being attended
by 17 trainee teachers. Trainees are studying English, Science,
Mathematics and Social Studies as core subjects. Additionally, ICT,
Professional Studies, Urdu, Islamiat, Arts, Physical Education and Music
courses have been started as regular components of ITE course.
Trainees'
First Training Practice
To provide a practical and real-life
teaching experience to ITE trainees, a five-week teaching practice was
conducted in April/May at five local schools, including
PVPS.
AQE Workshop on
“Teaching of Social Studies”
All ITE trainees
attended Alliance of Quality Education (AQE) Workshop on "Teaching of
Social Studies" held in April at PVPS.

New Post-graduate
diploma course
New
Post-graduate diploma course
New post-graduate diploma course at the
Institute started in July 2003. Twenty two teacher trainees from Azad
Kashmir and Pakistan are attending the course.
2002
Links with the University of Gloucester
PVITE Course Progress
New Director
Links
with the University of Gloucester
Director and Assistant Director of the
Institute continue to maintain contact with the University of Gloucester
including a visit to the University in February 2002.
PVITE Course Progress
Second ITE course continues despite
disruptions due to withdrawal of Director and Assistant Director of the
Institute by VSO in view of the changing security situation in the
country. Principal PVPS and his staff have taken on the challenge of
running the course. The course was successfully completed in December
2002. Highlights of the course were:
- Micro Teaching and observation of good teaching practice were carried
out in PVPS
- Teaching practice of 4 weeks during October 2002 was conducted at Army
Public School, Fauji Foundation School and local Government schools.
New Director PVITE
Elvie Herd, Director of PVITE, left for UK after having served for over
two years as its Director and Teacher Trainer. Ann Gibson, another VSO
volunteer, has taken over as the new Director.

Dr. Attiya Inayatullah, Federal Minister for
Women Development, Social Welfare and Special Education visited PVITE on
October 27th, 2001. She met the trainees and commended the quality of
their work. She also laid the stone of the new ITE building to be
completed within 2 years.
Commencement of
Second Diploma Course
The second ITE course commenced on July 31,
2001 with an intake of 21 trainees from AJ&K Government Schools,
Tameer-e-Millat School (Mianwali),
PVPS and local
private students.

of the 20 girls in the
first course of PVITE completed
the course for the postgraduate diploma in education. 11 of them have got
jobs in various schools and three have set up a school of their own.

Commencement of First Diploma Course
Commencement of First Diploma Course An 18 month diploma course started on
July 2, 2000 with 20
local graduate girls as students in the Pearl Valley Institute of Teachers
Education (PVITE).
